Big Catch

Big Catch Slots game in Review

The Big Catch slot from Novomatic plays like a standard slot title with an undersea theme. Symbols during ordinary play include only some sponges, the game logo and an anchor, so at first it doesn’t seem too exciting or theme-related. However, during the bonus round the player meets a range of interesting fish, which also deliver some impressive prizes.

Big Catch plays on five reels displaying three symbols each, and has 20 paylines. The reels, framed in seaweed, spin in front of an underwater seascape of corals, plant life and sponges. The player can choose to bet on 5, 10, 15 or all 20 paylines, and adjust the bet per line between 1 and 500 coins. So the game can be played for as little as 5 coins per spin, and as many as 10,000.

Bonus Fishing Feature Triggered Randomly

Big Catch does not use a Scatter symbol, nor does it have a standard free spins bonus game feature. However, it does have a bonus feature that can be triggered at random at the end of any spin, and apart from offering the player enhanced prizes, the Fishing Feature also offers a visual break from the monotony of reels spinning against a background that never changes, apart from the occasional bubble trail.

If the Big Catch Fishing Feature is triggered, the reels fill with water and the player is offered a selection of reels. The player picks a reel to lower a hook, which will return with a catch; hopefully, from the player’s point of view, a nice fat, colourful fish. There are seven goofy-looking fish of distinct sizes in the Fishing Feature bonus, from tiddlers worth just 20 credits to monsters worth 2,000 credits.

The player keeps fishing, adding the point count for each fish landed to the bonus score, until the player picks a reel that hooks an old boot. At that point, the total bonus win is tallied and added to the player’s wins, and the Fishing Feature ends.

Only Six Ordinary Symbols

Apart from the multi-coloured fish of all sizes in the Fishing Feature, Big Catch uses only six ordinary symbols in base play. Five of these are boldly coloured undersea sponges, fashioned as numbers and letters to create the card symbols 10, J, Q, K and A. Among these symbols, the top prize, for five As, is 100 credits.

There are two higher-value symbols: an anchor, with prizes of 60, 100 or 200 credits for three, four or five matches, and the Big Catch game logo, which can win 100, 200 or 500 credits.

Wild Only Bonus Symbol

A cheerful pink starfish is the Big Catch Wild, the game’s only special symbol. It can double for any other symbol, but appears only on Reels 2, 3 or 4. When it occurs on all three of these reels, however, it can help complete multiple winning paylines at once.

Big Catch symbols can also arrive stacked, which can be very lucrative in the case of the Big Catch logo. One payline of five matches pays 500 credits. However, in the very rare event that all five reels end up fully stacked with Big Catch logos, all 20 paylines will pay the same top prize, for a total win of 10,000 credits.
